Western European Arming Sword, 13th And 14th Centuries
Western European Arming Sword, 13th and 14th Centuries
The sword's hilt features an exposed tang and a large, faceted oval pommel. The guard consists of two downward-curving quillons with flared ends and perforated on either side. These perforations would have been inlaid with bronze, copper, or stones.
The quillons show significant trauma, with one side bent outward. This evidence is reinforced by the significant wear on this side of the blade, indicating that this was the cutting and contact area. A single fuller on each side and interesting markings on the ends, intersected by subtly incorporated punches to form a cross.

Blade: 74 cm
