Neck Catcher
History of these weapons
Also known as a shark catcher or witch's collar, the neck catcher is a hast weapon designed not to kill, but to grab a person by the neck. It has been used both in battlefields and in public spaces
Attested as early as the 17the century, the neck-catcher would first have been used to unseat armored horsemen in battle. These nobles could then be exchanged for ransom or various other agreements. The weapon would also have been used to immobilize soldiers climbing ladders during castle attacks.
Over time, the attrape-cou became attrape-coquin, "coquin" then meaning rogue. It is used both on the public highway and in prison, to channel a rioter for example. The spikes are then less numerous, or even non-existent.
