Map of Asia Minor, Antonio Zatta, Venice 1785, 18th century
Copper engraving titled “Asia Minor in suas partes seu provincias divisa,” published in Venice in 1785 by Antonio Zatta e Figli and taken from the *Atlante Novissimo*, Volume IV.
The map depicts ancient Asia Minor, corresponding largely to present-day Anatolia, along with Cyprus and parts of the neighboring territories of Armenia and Mesopotamia. The detailed cartography shows the ancient regions, cities, waterways, and topography.
In the upper left corner is an elegant cartouche bearing the title and publication details.
In the lower right corner appears the notation “G. Pitteri scr.”, referring to Giovanni Marco Pitteri.
Engraving on laid paper, with borders and some details hand-watercolored in the style of the period.
The sheet measures approximately 49 × 38 cm and consists of two parts joined at the center, as is clearly visible on the reverse as well.
The condition is consistent with its age: there is widespread efflorescence and foxing, signs of aging, and slight warping of the paper. The central join between the two sheets is visible.
