Map Of The Dioceses Of Münster And Osnabrück, Antonio Zatta, Venice 1781
Map of the Bishoprics of Münster and Osnabrück, Antonio Zatta, Venice 1781
Copper engraving depicting “The Bishoprics of Münster and Osnabrück with East Frisia and the Counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst,” published in Venice in 1781 by Antonio Zatta and taken from the *Atlante Novissimo*, Volume II.
The map depicts a large area of northwestern Germany, including the former bishopric principalities of Münster and Osnabrück, East Frisia, and the counties of Oldenburg and Delmenhorst.
The composition is enhanced, in the upper right corner, by an elegant cartouche set within a landscape.
At the bottom are the inscriptions “G. Zuliani inc.” and “G. Pitteri scr.,” referring respectively to the engraver Giuliano Zuliani and to Giovanni Marco Pitteri.
Engraving on laid paper, with borders and some details hand-watercolored in the style of the period.
The sheet measures approximately 49 × 38.5 cm and consists of two parts joined in the center, as is also clearly visible on the reverse.
The condition is consistent with its age: there is widespread efflorescence and foxing, signs of aging, and slight warping of the paper. The central join between the two sheets is visible.
Venice, 1781.
