"Bandmaster’s Baton – Dedicated To Mr. Fred Black, 1892"
A rare and elegant bandmaster’s baton, crafted in 1892 from exotic hardwood, likely rosewood, known for its density and warm tone. The baton features fine silver mounts at both ends, beautifully engraved and hallmarked in Manchester, confirming the authenticity of the silver used.
The central silver band bears the following engraved dedication:
“PRESENTED TOMr. Fred BlackBANDMASTERBY THE MEMBERSOF THECENTRAL LONDON RANGERSAS A MARK OF ESTEEM20TH SEPTEMBER 1892”
This inscription reflects the deep respect and admiration of the members of the Central London Rangers band, a British volunteer military corps active during the 19th century. The baton was likely presented as a token of appreciation for Mr. Fred Black’s service and dedication.
