"Venetian Giltwood Wall Sconce With Mirror, Late 18th – Early 19th Century"
Elegant Venetian wall sconce with mirror, dating from the late 18th to the early 19th century, carved in finely worked wood and gilt with gold leaf, featuring a rich decorative vocabulary inspired by late Baroque forms, already transitioning toward Neoclassical taste. The structure displays a shaped and animated frame, entirely carved with scrolls, foliage and rocaille motifs, surmounted by an elegant pierced crest. The particularly rich and luminous gilding was most likely refreshed during the 19th century, in accordance with common practice for such furnishings, while retaining a high decorative quality. The sconce is fitted with three candle arms, combining wrought iron and carved wood, originally intended for candlelight use and later electrified, well integrated into the overall design. The mirror is original mercury glass and is now heavily altered by heat-related damage from candle use, a condition frequently encountered and historically consistent with this type of object. The backboard is original, intact and well preserved.Overall, a highly decorative and authentic Venetian wall sconce of great character, ideal as a striking wall feature in both classic and eclectic interiors.Dimensions: height 97 cm; width 51 cm; depth 26 cm.For further information, photographs or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.Worldwide shipping available with professional packaging.
