Pair Of Turned Walnut Wood Candlesticks, Italy, 17th Cent
Elegant pair of small 17th-century candlesticks, entirely turned in walnut wood, featuring a slender and well-proportioned baluster form with stepped circular bases. The candlesticks measure 35 cm in total height including the metal spike, while the wooden shaft alone measures 30 cm; the base diameter is 8.3 cm. The upper section retains its original metal spike for holding the candle, consistent in type and wear with the period. Both examples are sound, sturdy and structurally intact. The lower section contains an internal lead weight, inserted in period to ensure greater stability and prevent tipping, a functional feature typical of utilitarian objects of the time. The walnut wood displays a warm and well-developed patina, acquired over time, with natural signs of use and light wear consistent with age. One candlestick shows a very slight off-axis alignment at the tip, due to the natural movement of the wood over centuries; this is noted for accuracy but does not affect stability or the overall aesthetic appeal.Overall, this is a pair of candlesticks of sober and authentic character, rich in historical presence, well suited to period interiors, wooden furniture collections, or as evocative decorative elements. For further information, photos or technical details, please do not hesitate to contact us.
