Italian Dodecagonal Coffee Table With Maple And Walnut Inlay, Early 19th Century
An Italian dodecagonal coffee table from the early decades of the 19th century, featuring a tabletop entirely inlaid with maple and walnut. The top features rich geometric decoration dominated by a central twelve-pointed star, enclosed within a band of perspective motifs and small inlaid rhombuses, executed with great artisanal precision. In the center is a circular inlay of natural material with iridescent sheen, which further enhances the composition. The turned elm leg rests on a shaped tripod base. The table is crafted as a single piece and cannot be disassembled. It represents an interesting example of early 19th-century Italian cabinetmaking, with a geometric decorative scheme that highlights the color contrast between maple and walnut.
