Rustic Trentino Chest, 18th Century

A beautiful and authentic antique chest, believed to originate from the Trentino region, likely from the Val di Sole, recognizable by the typical decoration featuring large rosettes carved in relief that characterizes the craftsmanship of this area.Crafted from solid wood, it features a splendid honey-colored patina that has developed over time, enhancing its charm and authenticity. Dimensions: 156 cm wide, 52 cm deep, and 51 cm high.This is a rustic chest of excellent craftsmanship, likely intended for use as a wedding chest or a dowry chest. The piece is entirely handcrafted, with a back panel assembled from planks, hand-forged hardware, sturdy traditional joints, and construction details that attest to a high level of craftsmanship. The lock is original and in perfect working order. A key was crafted using an antique specimen, which was then carefully adapted to the original lock, restoring its perfect function while fully respecting the piece’s historical integrity.The piece has undergone a careful conservative restoration, limited exclusively to the parts damaged by the passage of time. The lower right side molding was reconstructed, and one of the two rear hinges was replaced, while the other original hinge was retained. The rest of the structure retains its original material. Inside, the characteristic side compartment is present; the flap of the small left-hand interior compartment is missing, a detail we have chosen to highlight for the sake of full transparency. However, a faithful reconstruction of the flap can be made upon request. The chest retains the natural signs of aging, minor wear, and irregularities typical of an antique piece of furniture. The surface has been simply refreshed with a light wax finish, preserving the beautiful original honey-colored patina. We are available to provide additional photos, details, and information.
