Carlo X Biscuit Table With Walnut Veneer – Italy, Mid-19th Century
An elegant Charles X-style biscuit table, made in Italy in the mid-19th century. The top, with its beautifully undulating and contoured shape, is finely veneered in walnut with a refined herringbone pattern centered around a geometric medallion. The quality of the grain, particularly warm and lively, gives the piece a striking decorative presence. The table rests on a substantial central turned base, richly carved with foliage motifs and references still tied to the Neoclassical style, while evolving toward the softer, more undulating lines typical of the Louis Philippe style. The four curved legs end in elegant carved scrolls. The fully detachable structure is also very interesting: the top can be easily separated from the base via pins located beneath the top itself, a practical feature that is rare to find. A piece of excellent craftsmanship, ideal for both classic settings and more contemporary contexts as a living room table, room centerpiece, or elegant gueridon. In good overall condition. The tabletop shows slight signs of age and wear on the finish; a light refinishing may be recommended, a service that can be arranged upon request.
