Large Illuminated Fountain Made Of Murano Glass, Italy, Circa 1950–1960

A large, striking illuminated fountain made of Murano glass, crafted in Italy around the mid-20th century. The piece features a complex internal metal structure entirely covered with numerous individually mounted pieces of worked glass. The large circular basin, the base, and the shaft are composed of imposing pieces of transparent green glass, characterized by rich ribbed detailing and a distinctive inner surface that produces numerous reflections when illuminated. The upper section is embellished with a composition of small transparent glass flowers arranged along the perimeter and decorative figures in transparent and yellow glass. At the center stands a large transparent glass element, with a distinctive corolla shape, also featuring vertical ribbing.Of particular interest is the complex system originally designed to combine water, light, movement, and color. Inside the basin is a disc divided into sectors of colored glass, connected to a small device activated by the movement of the water. When in operation, the rotation of the disc gradually changes the color of the light, creating different chromatic effects through the water and the glass elements. The fountain still retains its original FICEM Milano self-priming pump. The pump, which has been unused for many years, is currently seized and will need to be overhauled before it can be put back into operation. For the time being, it has been decided to preserve it, prioritizing the preservation of the original historic system; should restoration prove impossible, it may be replaced with a modern pump. The lighting system has been partially updated in recent years with the addition of LED strips, installed to increase brightness and better highlight the reflections in the glass. There have also been some subsequent modifications to the electrical system.Overall, the fountain is in good condition, showing normal signs of aging, minor wear, and oxidation on the metal and brass parts, which are particularly visible in the lower section.A decorative object with a striking presence, conceived as a true luminous and kinetic sculpture, in which the tradition of Venetian glass blends with the effects of water, light, and movement typical of postwar Italian design.Period: circa 1950–1960 Origin: Italy Materials: worked glass, metal, brass, electrical and plumbing systems Diameter: 78 cm Height: 137 cm The fountain is offered as-is; the plumbing system requires servicing before it can be put back into operation.
