Pair Of Louis Philippe Side Tables In Carved Walnut – Veneto, 19th Century
Pair of Louis Philippe-style console tables in carved walnut – Veneto, 1860–1880
A pair of console tables made in Veneto from carved walnut in the second half of the 19th century, in the Louis Philippe style, with neo-Baroque decorative influences.
The consoles feature elegant, contoured and undulating tops, showcasing the beautiful natural grain of the walnut, with rounded, molded edges that harmoniously follow their profile.
The shaped aprons beneath the tops are embellished in the center with elaborate ornamental carvings featuring opposing volutes, scrolls, and foliage motifs, executed with particular attention to detail.
Particularly noteworthy is the front support structure, consisting of two imposing double-volute legs, richly carved with plant motifs, flowers, and clusters of fruit. The legs terminate in curled feet and are connected at the rear by straight supports.
At the bottom, a wide connecting shelf—shaped and adorned along the edge—lends solidity to the structure and completes the compositional balance of the furniture.
The pair retains a warm walnut hue, with pleasing natural shades and grain that highlight the quality of the craftsmanship.
Condition: good, with normal signs of age and use. No significant decorative losses are noted. The surfaces show slight signs of wear consistent with the period.
