Hand-knotted Persian Malayer Rug – First Half Of The 20th Century

Hand-knotted tribal Persian rug, made in the Malayer region (between Hamadan and Isfahan) during the first half of the 20th century.The central field features an elegant geometric medallion, surrounded by a dense array of stylized floral motifs and diamond-shaped rosettes, typical of the local decorative tradition. The well-balanced main border displays floral and geometric elements on a deep blue background, framed by two secondary guard borders.
The colour palette – red, blue, pink, ivory and black – remains vivid and bright, despite the pronounced central wear, which gives the piece a beautifully aged and authentic appearance. The pile is made of hand-spun wool, knotted on cotton warp and weft, using the asymmetrical knot typical of the region.
Although worn in the centre, the structure is stable. A rug that suits vintage, rustic or eclectic interiors, and can also enhance modern, minimalist settings with a touch of history.
