Large Venetian Canterano In Walnut Burl, Late 17th – Early 18th Century
Impressive large-scale Venetian canterano, crafted between the late 1600s and early 1700s, likely made for a noble residence or palatial interior.Featuring a shaped front and straight sides, it measures 145 cm wide, 71 cm deep, and 99 cm high — a commanding presence with refined proportions and elegant lines.
Entirely veneered in walnut burl and other fine woods, the chest showcases exquisite craftsmanship: shaped and veneered moldings, herringbone patterns on the drawer fronts, and a contoured top with molded edge.
The original bronze handles are finely cast and depict two facing lions — a rare and striking decorative motif. The interior dust panels are original. The locks are intact, although the keys are missing.
In excellent condition, with an attractive antique patina and only minor signs of age. A masterful example of high Venetian cabinetmaking, perfect for refined interiors or discerning collections.
