Carved Walnut High-back Chair, Northern Italy, Late 17th – Early 18th Century

Elegant high-back chair with openwork backrest ("cartella" type), made in Northern Italy between the late 17th and early 18th century.
The slender structure features a richly carved backrest with two horizontal slats, decorated with floral and scroll motifs typical of Northern Italian Renaissance and Baroque design. A matching carved slat also decorates the lower front stretcher.
The hand-carved walnut has a beautiful original patina. The seat is solid walnut, stable and well-proportioned.There are some areas requiring minor restoration: small cracks to glue and points needing infill with wooden inserts, but the overall structure is solid and authentic.
