Hand-carved walnut chest in Neo-Medieval taste, dating to the 19th century, likely produced in Northern Italy, possibly in the Veneto or Friuli region.The front is divided into three high-relief panels depicting Christian-inspired figures. On the left is Saint Peter holding the key, symbol of the foundation of the Church; at the center Saint Catherine of Alexandria, identifiable by the martyr’s wheel, emblem of Christian wisdom; on the right, a sword-bearing figure interpreted as a military saint or Christian knight, an allegory of the defense of the faith.The surface is richly hand-carved with interlaced motifs and medieval-inspired decoration, featuring deep undercutting and still clearly legible carving. Particularly striking is the inside of the lid, decorated with a painted panel depicting a biblical subject.Constructed with forged iron hardware, including original hinges and side handles. Spacious interior with a lateral compartment.Good overall patina with age-consistent wear.
