Late 16th-century French Renaissance Chest, Walnut
French chest from the second half of the 1500s in the Renaissance style, made of walnut. The chest’s lid is smooth and flat, with square corners, allowing the wood’s natural grain and the patina of age to show through. It serves both as a lid and as a potential tabletop or seat. The main front is symmetrically divided into two large rectangular panels. Within these panels is a sumptuous high relief carved into the wood, featuring dense scrollwork motifs.
