Gilded French Oval Mirror With A "love Knot" – Napoleon III Period, 19th Century
An elegant oval mirror of French manufacture, created in the second half of the 19th century, during the Napoleonic III period, in the Louis XVI style. The frame features rich, gilded relief decoration with ornamental leaf and beaded motifs. Particularly distinctive is the upper cornice, decorated with a large “love knot” formed by intertwined, fluttering ribbons. The lower section is embellished with leaf motifs and volutes, featuring a small central pendant element. It retains its original antique silvered mirror, embellished with a wide beveled border that follows the entire oval profile. The mirror’s surface shows slight traces of oxidation and signs of aging, which pleasantly preserve its antique character. The gilding has a beautiful patina, with natural wear and variations in tone. There are traces of previous restorations and touch-ups to the gilding and the backing plate, as well as some small cracks and normal signs of aging, consistent with its age and use.Overall, the mirror retains a beautiful decorative presence and a pleasant antique charm, suitable for both classic settings and as a contrasting element in a contemporary interior.Period: second half / late 19th century, Napoleon III eraOrigin: FranceMaterials: wood, gilded paste, original silvered and bevelled mirrorDimensions: height 98 cm × width 62 cmFor further information or additional photographs, please do not hesitate to contact us.
