Large French Louis Philippe Mirror, Gilded With Gold Leaf, Featuring The Original Mercury Mirror

An important French mirror from the Louis-Philippe period, made around the mid-19th century (circa 1840–1855). Of considerable size (133 x 102 cm), it features the classic shape with rounded corners characteristic of the finest French production of the era. The frame is embellished with refined floral and fruit motifs in relief, elegantly distributed along the uprights and at the central points of the structure. The original gold leaf gilding still retains a pleasant luster, enhanced by the natural patina developed over more than a century and a half of history. The slight traces of age, a few small imperfections, and the minimal signs of the joints in the wooden backing are normal indications of its authenticity and contribute to the piece’s overall charm. A feature of exceptional value is the large original mercury-coated mirror plate, preserved in exceptionally good condition. The mirror shows only very slight oxidation and minimal surface marks, maintaining an extraordinary brilliance and depth of reflection that is increasingly difficult to find in examples from this era. The back is original and preserves the object’s historical structure. Thanks to its balanced proportions and elegant shape, the mirror can be used in either a vertical or horizontal position, simply by adjusting the hanging mechanism. An important piece of furniture that fits naturally into both classic and contemporary settings, where the charm of the antique mirror helps create depth, light, and elegance.Dimensions: 133 x 102 cm Period: circa 1840–1855 Origin: France Materials: wood gilded with gold leaf, decorative inlay, original mercury mirror Condition: generally well-preserved.
