Description

Christ carved in the round from linden wood, depicting Christ on the cross, his head bowed beneath a finely crafted crown of thorns. The perizonium is tied at the right hip and rendered with soft folds, while the anatomy is depicted with great mastery, characteristic of 18th-century German religious sculpture.

The quality of the sculpture is evident in the expressiveness of the face, the elegance of the proportions, and the beautiful dark brown patina of the wood, which highlights the work’s three-dimensionality.
