Rare white earthenware Masonic plate with black decoration, made for the “La Charité” lodge, identifiable by the central inscription and the richly detailed emblematic symbolism. This piece most likely dates from the mid to late 19th century.
Description:
In the center is a set of Masonic symbols: Six-pointed stars arranged in an arc Level, set square, mallet, acacia branch And in the center, the words: “R.·.L.·. La Charité, O.·. de Charleroi” (meaning “Respectable Lodge La Charité, Orient de Charleroi”).
The peripheral inscription “LA CHARITÉ” reinforces the initiatory origin of the object.
Mark on the reverse: “IVOIRE” intaglio, typical of 19th century Belgian earthenware factories
