Description
Rare 16th-century pyxide box, consisting of a wooden core entirely covered with embossed leather.
The decoration consists of panels featuring foliage motifs on an amati background, separated by fine vertical bands that extend onto the lid and body. This type of object was intended to protect and transport a pyxide containing the Holy Sacrament.
Condition
The top knob was replaced in the past. The piece shows minor losses and previous restorations, consistent with its age and use.
