Rare, large Agnus Dei made of blessed wax, cast in high relief, depicting Saint John the Baptist as a child holding the Lamb of God (Agnus Dei), a symbol of Christ. The saint is identifiable by the lamb, the reed cross adorned with a red scroll, and the raised inscription “St. John the Baptist” visible at the top.
This composition is crafted from polychrome wax with gold and red highlights and is presented in its original framed display under glass, with a moiré fabric backing.
Agnus Dei of this quality were intended for private devotion and are now sought-after objects of religious art.

In good condition considering the fragility of the material, with an antique patina, a few cracks, and signs of normal wear, consistent with the work’s age. The frame also shows normal signs of aging.
