Gilt Silver Chalice And Paten, France, 19th Century, By Demarquet Brothers

A gilt silver set comprising a neo-Gothic chalice and a matching paten. The chalice rests on a circular, stepped base, bordered by a beaded frieze and adorned with an openwork frieze of floral pinnacles. The base is matte gilt and edged with a burnished frieze. At its center is a screwed Latin cross, enameled with fleur-de-lis. The stem is tubular, decorated with a collar and a flattened torus molding. The chalice cup, set within a matte gilt saucer, is slightly conical with a straight rim and features the same matte and burnished surface finish, as well as the same openwork pinnacle ornamentation as the base of the chalice. The base is weighted. Hallmarks: Minerva 950/1000 on the cup, saucer, and the edge of the base. Maker's marks: Demarquet Frères, Paris, 3rd quarter of the 19th century.
