Academic Male Nude – French School, circa 1940-1960.

Description:

A studio study depicting a standing male nude, seen from behind, holding a posing stick, in a studio interior identifiable by the cast-iron radiator, easel, and neutral background.

The work of an academy-trained painter, it displays a solid anatomical mastery and subtle modeling of flesh tones.

The original canvas bears a stamp on the reverse from a French fine art supplier (canvases & colors, Paris).

There is also a handwritten inscription, "Maugham."

This inscription, currently unidentified, could suggest the British painter Daphne Maugham Casorati (1897-1982), who was active in France and Italy during the first half of the 20th century.
However, no formal evidence allows us to confirm this attribution at this stage.

Oil on canvas, 75 × 51 cm (unframed).

Good condition, canvas not relined, original stretcher.
