Oval Reliquary In Silvered Metal - Ex Ossibus , 18th Century - Italy
Oval silver-plated reliquary Ex Ossibus , 18th century – Italy.
Oval-shaped devotional reliquary in silver-plated metal with a set rim, suspended by a ring, containing a central relic displayed on a red textile background.
Description:
The relic (a fragment ex ossibus), difficult to identify, is presented at the center of a radiating decoration of gilded paper filigree forming a circular glory. It is held by a small lozenge-shaped cartouche and framed by two lateral decorative elements of speckled cut paper, typical of early convent mounts.
The whole is protected by a set glass pane.
Antique mount, not disassembled.
On the reverse, the red wax ecclesiastical seal guarantees the authenticity and integrity of the reliquary (seal intact with textile ties).
Careful religious work, probably from a monastic workshop or a learned devotional milieu.
Condition:
Good overall condition considering its age: normal wear to the metal, slight alterations to the decorative paper, antique textile with a patina. In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction, but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
