Antique Chalice Liner Embroidered With The Agnus Dei – 18th/19th Century

A beautiful antique Catholic chalice pall, richly hand-embroidered on silk.

The central medallion depicts the Agnus Dei, or Lamb of God, carrying a banner with a red cross and surrounded by a radiant halo. A chalice is depicted next to the lamb. The scene is surrounded by a rich Baroque-style floral scrollwork design, embroidered with silk threads and gold metallic threads.

The chalice pall is a square, rigid liturgical accessory traditionally placed over the chalice during Mass. The delicacy of the embroidery and the style of the decoration suggest a date from the late 18th or early 19th century. It is likely of continental European origin, perhaps French or Italian.

Dimensions: 17 × 17 cm.

This chalice pall is in an authentic, antique condition. It shows discoloration, wear on the silk, and several loose or missing embroidery threads, mainly at the corners and along the edges. The reverse side also has stains. Fortunately, the central embroidered depiction of the Lamb of God is still well-preserved. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.
