Antique Italian Majolica Cup Decorated With A Cupid Motif – 17th Century

A polychrome majolica bowl with a scalloped and fluted rim, decorated in the center with a winged Cupid holding his bow and arrows. A frieze of yellow flowers and blue foliage surrounds the figure.
The decoration is in the compendiario style, and the bowl likely dates from the 17th century. Similar examples are attributed to Deruta and Montelupo, but the place of manufacture for this bowl has not been definitively established.
The decorated side is well preserved. The bowl has been used over time and has not been restored. It shows glaze crazing and slight chips along the rim. The foot ring, on the reverse side, is damaged and may be partially broken. Please see the photographs.
