Old Arabic Manuscript On Paper - 19th Century
Old Arabic manuscript on paper - 19th century
Description
Arabic manuscript in black ink with red rubricated highlights, comprising approximately 40 double-sided pages (i.e. nearly 80 written pages). The work is written in an elegant Maghrebi or Near Eastern script, carefully arranged in ink-drawn frames.
The antique binding in stamped and gilded brown leather features Islamic-inspired geometric and floral decoration.
The text is executed by hand in black ink, with certain words or passages highlighted in red according to the traditional use of religious and literary manuscripts from the Muslim world.
The content appears to be Islamic religious or devotional literature, with several passages featuring invocations and references to God ("Allah"), although a complete identification of the text cannot be asserted from the photographed pages alone.
A fine example of the 19th-century Arabic manuscript tradition, retaining its authentic character despite traces of use, freckling, damp stains and some wear to the margins and binding in keeping with its age.
