Round reliquary, containing a bone relic of Saint Anthony of Padua under glass.
Description
The relic is displayed against a background of finely ribbed gold fabric and accompanied by its handwritten cedula, edged in red, bearing the abbreviated inscription “Ex Oss. S. Antonii Pat. ,” standing for Ex Ossibus Sancti Antonii Patavini, indicating that the relic originates from the bones of Saint Anthony of Padua.
On the reverse side, the ecclesiastical seal in red wax remains intact, secured by its original metal mount.
Saint Anthony of Padua (1195–1231), a Franciscan and Doctor of the Church, was one of the great preachers of the 13th century. Highly revered in Catholic devotion, he is notably invoked to help find lost objects.
Condition:
Good antique condition with oxidation and signs of age. Wax seal preserved.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale pertains solely to the reliquary as an object of sacred art. The relics it contains are not part of the transaction but are included as a courtesy due to their historical and cultural value.
