Portable Neo-gothic Commemorative Reliquary – Buenos Aires
Neo-Gothic Commemorative Portable Reliquary – Buenos Aires – 1836 / 1936.
Rare openwork gilt bronze portable reliquary in the Neo-Gothic style, decorated with stylized scrolls and turquoise cabochons, probably dating from the late 18th or early 19th century.
Description:
The front opens onto a circular niche containing a relic of an old textile.
The base is engraved on its various sides: “11 – JUNIO – 1836 – 1936 – B. AIRES”.
This double date most likely indicates a centennial commemorative piece, the object having been assembled in 1936 to celebrate a founding event dating back to 1836 (parish development, confraternity, or local devotion).
This type of inscription distributed around the base is characteristic of religious objects.
Presented with its original lined box with a textile interior.
Condition:
Beautiful patina from use, coherent whole. A devotional object of a commemorative nature, representative of South American religious production.
In accordance with canon law (can. 1190 §1), this sale concerns only the reliquary as a sacred work of art.
The relics it contains are not the object of the transaction but are included free of charge for their historical and cultural value.
