Reliquary Of Virgin And Child With 28 Martyrs - 18th Century

The Virgin, bust in Glory, in polychrome wax, tenderly watches over the Child. Who, arm crossed and swaddled, rests on a bed of seven relics of Saint Martyrs covered with fine gauze. Saint Honest, Saint Victoric, Saint Prosperous, Saint Victory, Saint Angel, Saint Speciofae, Saint Servidei, All sacrificed themselves for Him. We find three other series of seven relics.
They are harmoniously distributed, to the left, to the right and above the Virgin. Our Saints include the following: Aquilae, Hortulari, Aurelii, Beati, Amati, Bonosi, Justini, Gratioti, Aurea, Simplicitti, Glorioti, Pacifiti, Boni, Honorati, Gandidoti, Victorini, Humilis, Spei. Almost all of them are named after virtues or human qualities that bring us closer to the Most High.
