Imposing Wooden Pietà In An Altarpiece - Circa 1890
An exceptional carved wooden Pietà in a neo-Gothic sanctuary, circa 1880-1900. Sculpted and polychrome patinated, the piece is presented within a neo-Gothic architectural frame with pinnacles and openwork arcades, forming a true altarpiece. The treatment of the drapery with its broken folds, the introspective expression of the faces, and the fineness of the details testify to a high-quality craftsmanship. The original polychromy is well preserved, with gilt highlights and a Gothic-inspired frame, a veritable jewel box, which enhances the sculpture.

Mounted on a later wooden base.
Total height, including the base: 196 cm.
Dimensions of the Pietà alone: 145 cm x 53 cm x 37 cm.
