"Pair Of Polychrome Carved Wood Wall Brackets With Cherub Heads And Putti, 18th Century"
Pair of polychrome and gilded carved wooden wall brackets*, decorated with two cherub heads surrounded by foliage and ears of wheat, dating from the 18th century. These brackets are in good overall condition, in their original state. Superb quality. Please note: splits in the wood halfway up, some damage and missing wood, especially at the edges of the top and under the cherub heads, wear to the polychromy and gilding, and signs of age. Please examine the photos carefully (see red arrows). *Called "wall brackets," these brackets are often placed against wood paneling, a pier glass, or between two windows or doors. During the reign of Napoleon III, brackets with elaborate plant ornamentation were revived. (excerpt from the Larousse Dictionary of Antiques and Secondhand Goods). Dimensions: Height 19.5 cm, Width 30 cm, Depth 23 cm. All photos are available at: www.antiques-delaval.com
