Two angels and a gallery connecting them make up this altar piece. Our sculpted worshippers face each other on either side of the Altar. Kneeling and absorbed in prayer, they are carried by Grace, here represented by the Cloud, which traditionally manifests the presence of the Most High. The gallery, an assembly of three distinct elements, is richly crafted and topped with a crown. The said crown simultaneously evokes the Messiah-King and the Holy Crown of Thorns. These elements, as well as the angels, are made of molded, carved, and gilded wood.
The angels measure 57 cm in height by 40 cm in length, and the gallery that accompanies them is 66 cm in height by 60 cm in width. Note accidents, wormholes, and numerous missing parts.
A 17th-century work that remains touching, despite, or perhaps thanks to, the ravages of time.
