Large Reliquary Monstrance With Five Relics – 18th Century
A work from Tyrol, this monstrance is in richly carved and very partially gilded wood. Three niches, symbolic representation of the Holy Trinity, receive five relics of Holy Martyrs of the first centuries.
The five could refer to the wounds of Christ. These ex-ossibus relics bagged and surrounded by a fine assembly of canetilles, are twice those of Saint Candide, of Saints Fructuosus and Clair and that of a rarer one of Optatus, possibly Saint Optatus, bishop of Milev, died in 384.
Good condition
Dimensions of 91 cm high by 38 cm wide and 14 cm deep.
