Reliquary Niche To The Glory Of Saint Francis Xavier - Circa 1800
An original reliquary niche with its arched shape typical of this period. Rich work with numerous gold thread cannetilles and various pearls frames an enhanced engraving of Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552). He is represented here, evangelizing in his capacity as a Jesuit missionary.
The apostle of the Indies was canonized in 1622. Six bagged relics surround him: Saint Viecle Martyr, Saint Placide Martyr, another Saint Martyr, Saint John of Nepomuk, Saint Magne Abbot and Saint Victor Martyr as well. On the back are three seals with a clearly visible coat of arms, carried by an angel.
Frame and terrace are in blackened wood.
A work from the very end of the 18th century from southern Germany.
