Three Antique Silver-plated Ex-votos—hand, Belly, And Sacred Heart

A rare set of three antique religious ex-votos, crafted from repoussé silver-plated metal. This set includes a hand, a belly, and a richly decorated Sacred Heart.

These anatomical ex-votos were traditionally hung in a church or chapel as a token of gratitude for a healing or to ask for protection. The hand could symbolize an illness or injury to the hand or arm. The belly might have been associated with abdominal pain, pregnancy, or childbirth.

The Sacred Heart is particularly decorative. At its center is a heart in relief, surrounded by a crown of thorns, floral motifs, and flames at the top.

The hand and the belly are fitted with elegant hanging loops. The ex-voto depicting a belly is a less common type, which makes this set particularly interesting for a collector of folk religious art and devotional objects.

Probably a continental European piece from the late 19th or early 20th century.

• Sacred Heart: 10.9 × 6.9 cm

Condition: authentic antique condition with oxidation, scratches, discoloration, wear on the silver plating, and minor irregularities. These signs are consistent with the age and former religious use of these objects. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.

The three ex-votos are sold as a set.
