Large Sacred Flaming Heart In Solid Silver, Ex-voto From The Early 19th Century

This large French Flaming Sacred Heart, crafted in solid silver, is a striking representation of divine love, sacrifice, and devotion. This silver Sacred Heart is typically adorned with radiant flames, symbolizing Christ's ardent love for humanity. The flames, sometimes stylized into elongated or sinuous patterns, lend the heart an ethereal and almost lifelike quality. The silver retains traces of gilding, a timeless beauty that makes it a relic of ancient faith. In the Catholic tradition, particularly in France, Spain, and Latin America, Sacred Hearts were often displayed on altars or worn as protective amulets. This piece bears the initials "N de D" (Notre-Dame) and a crown, which may suggest a particular devotion to the Virgin Mary, thus linking the Sacred Heart to the Immaculate Heart of Mary, whose iconography is similar. In this context, the flames could also represent maternal love and Mary's suffering, particularly in connection with the Passion of Christ. Inside and on both sides, inscriptions are visible: on the left, June 8-9-10, 1893; on the right, MO-LG 1920-8 Bre 1893.
