Liberty & Co. Sterling Silver And Enamel Photo Frame, Cymric, Birmingham 1907 Archibald Knox?

A magnificent antique sterling silver photo frame by Liberty & Co., from the famous Cymric collection, hallmarked in Birmingham in 1907.

This oval frame is elegantly decorated with alternating blue and green enamel motifs and small floral rosette-shaped ornaments, creating a particularly refined Arts & Crafts aesthetic. The combination of polished sterling silver and colorful enamels is particularly characteristic of the distinctive decorative style of Liberty & Co.’s famous Cymric collection.

The Cymric collection is closely associated with the influential Arts & Crafts designer Archibald Knox, and many comparable pieces from Liberty & Co.’s Cymric collection are attributed to him. This frame could possibly be attributed to Archibald Knox, although this attribution cannot be definitively confirmed. It is therefore offered as a possible attribution and not as a certain one.

The frame is oval in shape and measures approximately 13.4 cm in diameter, with a total weight of approximately 115 grams.

The silver bears the British Birmingham hallmarks for the year 1907, as well as the maker’s mark of Liberty & Co.

Condition:
Good and attractive overall condition for its age. Two small areas of enamel are missing from one of the decorative motifs, as visible in the photographs. The backing has been replaced at a later date. The silver frame shows some slight surface marks and signs of wear consistent with its age. It remains, however, a very fine and particularly decorative example of Cymric silverware by Liberty & Co.
