Loetz Pn III-179 Stemmed Glass – Michael Powolny – Version 157 – Circa 1914
An elegant and delicate stemmed glass, made around 1914 by the Johann Lötz Witwe factory in Klostermühle, based on a design by Michael Powolny.
This design corresponds to production number PN III-179 and features the famous “Ausführung 157” pattern, also known as “Opal mit blauen Streifen.” The bowl is made of slightly translucent white opaline glass, lined with colorless glass and adorned with fine applied cobalt-blue glass lines. These radiate from the center of the stem and extend up the bowl to its flower-shaped, wavy rim. The central band and the upper rim are also accented with cobalt blue glass.
The combination of light opaline glass, contrasting blue lines, and this elegant ribbed form is characteristic of Michael Powolny’s innovative designs for Loetz during the Austrian Werkbund era. Its exceptionally light weight of just 166 grams attests to the remarkable finesse of its blowing.
The glass is unsigned. The attribution is based on its correspondence with the Loetz form documented under number PN III-179 and with the decoration Ausführung 157.
The object is in very good vintage condition, with slight, normal signs of wear under the foot. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they are an integral part of the description.
