This monkey was created during this period, between 1910 and 1920. Artists at that time frequented the Jardin Public to observe animals. They then made their sketches in their studios.
This monkey, depicted with great naturalism and without any particular stylization, is probably an early work, dating from around 1910-1920. The artist has magnificently rendered the animal's expression and posture. Hand-sculpted in terracotta, it is fired without glaze.
It is in excellent condition.
The monkey is signed "EM Samson".
