Terracotta Seated Monkey, Em Samson, Paris 1910-1920
Artist: Emmanuel Samson
This seated monkey is a work by Emmanuel Samson. Born in Paris, he was a student of Gérôme. Specializing in animal representation, he practiced sculpture and painting.
He exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français between 1910 and 1930.
This monkey was created during this period, between 1910 and 1920. Artists at that time frequented the Jardin Public to observe animals. They then made their sketches in their studios.
This monkey, depicted with great naturalism and without any particular stylization, is probably an early work, dating from around 1910-1920. The artist has magnificently rendered the animal's expression and posture. Hand-sculpted in terracotta, it is fired without glaze.
It is in excellent condition.
The monkey is signed "EM Samson".
Dimensions:
Height: 17.6 cm,
Length: 13.5 cm,
Width: 8 cm.
Thank you for your visit. Sincerely, Ben
