Art Deco Animalier Polar Bear Belgian Bronze Signed Sylvain Norga – Antiques

Art Deco Animalier, superb and rare bronze polar bear posed on a sheet of ice. The animal rests on a double marble base, the upper part of which is worked to evoke a snowy or icy surface. The body of the bear, finely sculpted, bears the initials SN, corresponding to the Belgian artist Sylvain Norga. The work weighs a total of 9 kilos. It is in excellent condition, almost perfect. The black-veined marble has four small chips on the front: two on the bottom left and two on the top right. Not disturbing.

This piece is also referenced in the 1947 and 1948 catalog, under the mention Bronze NORGA – Marcel Choux, (source: pages 2748 & 2755 of the book La Sculpture en Belgique by Engelen-Marx, volume V).
