Cast iron statue of French origin, probably representing a cherub. Dimensions: 75 cm high, weight: 22 kg. This is most likely a decorative piece dating from the 19th or early 20th century, in the Neoclassical, Empire, or possibly Art Nouveau style. Cherubs (or child angels) were very popular motifs in French decorative art of this period. They symbolize innocence, purity, and beauty, and often adorned gardens, fountains, funerary monuments, or interior decorative objects. Cast iron was a widely used material in 19th-century France, notably by renowned foundries such as: Val d'Osne, Durenne, Tusey, Sommevoire. These workshops produced high-quality artistic cast iron sculptures. It is possible that this statue comes from one of them. There is a round pressed mark? on the base at back of the sculpture. The overall condition of the piece is very good but is repainted long time ago. This sculpture is ideal as an outdoor decoration (garden, terrace) or as an indoor collector's item.
