"Baby Jesus In Wax Under A Bell Jar, 19th Century"
19th century wax Infant Jesus, made using traditional techniques attributable to a Carmelite convent. The face rests in a peaceful attitude, the features are fine and regular, the eyes closed. The hair is natural, brown, carefully curled, implanted in the wax. The child is dressed in a simple, antique, unbleached wool dress, showing visible alterations (small holes linked to moth attacks), testifying to an unrestored original condition. He holds in his hands a miniature amber-tinted glass chalice with a semi-spherical lid. The decor consists of a rock made of carton-pierre, dressed with natural moss, shells, paper flowers, dried plants and plant elements. The setting evokes a symbolic garden, according to 19th century convent practices. The whole is presented under an original glass bell, with corners reinforced by embossed gold paper on the outside and green gummed paper on the inside. The base is made of blackened wood, rectangular in shape, resting on four small turned feet. Overall dimensions: • Width: 46 cm • Depth: 30 cm • Height: 56 cm
