"Silver-gilt Cruet Tray, France Circa 1850"
Church cruet tray in chased and guilloché gilt silver. Oval in shape with a central depression, the basin is decorated on the rim with bouquets of rushes and bunches of grapes. The rim is decorated with a frieze of water leaves and pearls. The basin is fitted with two positioning nipples. France, work from the mid-19th century. 950/1000 silver, Minerva hallmarks. Made by the Parisian silversmith Jean-Baptiste Garnier, whose hallmark is inscribed on July 23, 1839. Length: 25.5 cm. Width: 16 cm. Height: 5.4 cm. Dimensions of the nipples: Height: 2.1 cm. Diameter: 1.0 cm. Base: diameter: 2.9 cm. Weight: 295 g. Good condition / wear to the gilding. Formerly used with cruets measuring 14.5 cm in height.
