Lovely Little Holy Water Font / Stations Of The Cross In Wood And Plaster - Early 19th Century
Lovely little holy water font in ivory-colored plaster (in the center) and old wood.
An authentic shell serves as a holy water font at the bottom of the work.
Very fragile object. Has already been glued back together.
This is probably the 12th stage of a Stations of the Cross.
The scene represents Christ dying on the cross.
At his feet, various characters including his mother (the Virgin Mary), the sister of the Virgin Mary, Saint John and Mary Magdalene.
The 5th character could be Veronica who wiped Jesus' face.
We can also make out 2 little cherubs.
Religious object probably dating from the beginning of the 19th century.
Was the property of the Librairie LETANG in Poitiers, an establishment that no longer exists.
