Box Decorated With Silk Embroidery Early 17th Century
Box late 16th and early 17th with paintings on silk, embroidered with silk. The main scene is the abduction of Europe by Jupiter who appears as a bull adorned with garlands of paper flowers. The following from Europe have superb draperies embroidered with gold and silver threads. The little cupid in the angel has his bow, arrow and quiver attributes fully embroidered. The landscape of the main stage and the side panels are also embroidered with sleeping peasants. Note a restoration on the facade with a watercolor in mind. The interior is sheathed in coral silk.
