"Louis XVI Style Mirror With Pediment, 18th Century"
An elegant mirror with a carved and gilded wooden pediment, French work from the Louis XVI period, dating to the 18th century. The pediment is adorned with a fluted antique vase, surrounded by an abundant garland of finely carved flowers and foliage. The frame features a decoration of pearls and swags, characteristic of the Neoclassical aesthetic of the second half of the 18th century. The gilding, old and patinated, reveals beautiful warm tones and natural wear. A few chips and localized repairs are visible, consistent with the age of the piece. The mirror is an old mercury glass, very deteriorated, with losses, oxidation, and stains from the original glass. The back, made of old wood paneling, shows traditional mounting: period back panel, tool marks, small old fixings, and a forged hook.
