Terracotta Signed Mecret - Young Fisherman - Late 19th / Early 20th Century
Terracotta sculpture depicting a young fisherman, shown standing in a simple, natural attitude, holding an apron or basket in front of him, two fish hanging from his shoulder.
The figure is dressed in a popular habit consisting of a buttoned vest, short pants and a soft cap, evoking seaside scenes and the daily life of modest circles.
The modeling, both supple and expressive, aptly renders the subject's slightly stooped attitude and discreet gaze. The whole bears witness to sensitive workmanship, characteristic of late 19th century production.
The base bears an incised signature "Mecret", as well as a model reference "78 P", corresponding to a workshop numbering.
Hollowed-out fired clay, showing original traces of manufacture and firing.
